The Courtroom 600 Education Project

Go behind the scenes at the Nuremberg trials, see a rare collection of artifacts on display, and learn about new podcast curriculum for middle and high schools, that brings the Holocaust into the center of WWII history, pulling it out of marginalized placement in textbooks and helping students understand the significance of ideology in Hitler’s war aims.

About Laurie: After inheriting her father’s hidden WWII memorabilia from working at the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials, Laurie discovered a need for education about this unexposed slice of history. The Courtroom 600 project was born out of her frustration in researching the trials through available resources. She founded Descendants Media Group NFP to preserve the legacy of Nuremberg and teach its lessons to future generations a new way – through immersive digital media experiences. Now, in partnership with educators and historians, she is bringing the Courtroom 600 project to life.

About Dave: Dave is a Teacher Fellow of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and taught history at the Latin School of Chicago from 1985 until he retired in 2018. The elective he taught on Nazi Germany, which is a nationally recognized class at Latin, ended with a simulation of the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials. Dave modeled the Courtroom 600 podcast curriculum from Nuremberg primary sources as a more efficient way to teach the origins of WWII in Europe. Prosecutors proved that Hitler started the war to gain more land for the growth of the Aryan “master race.” He will explain why students need to understand Nazi ideology in order to comprehend why Germans behaved and made choices as they did.
